{"id":12990,"date":"2017-04-01T13:06:51","date_gmt":"2017-04-01T07:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/?p=12990"},"modified":"2017-08-06T04:17:52","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T04:17:52","slug":"wc-volunteers-meet-with-his-holiness-dalai-lama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wc-volunteers-meet-with-his-holiness-dalai-lama\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting with the Dalai Lama\/Work Camp with Tibet-in-exile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From 6<sup>th <\/sup>&#8211; 26<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0 March 2017, we had 3 volunteers from 3 different countries, i.e. \u00a0France, Germany and \u00a0South Korea who participated in an Environment\/Renovation\/ Tibetan\u00a0Culture themed work camp at the \u2018Himalayan Beauty\u2019 Dhauladhar mountain range of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Low-His-Holliness-Dalai-lama-with-our-Volunteer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12997\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Low-His-Holliness-Dalai-lama-with-our-Volunteer.jpg\" alt=\"Low His Holliness Dalai lama with our Volunteer\" width=\"1000\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Even though it was a small group, the three international volunteers achieved the satisfaction and fulfillment that they sought through volunteerism. They actively participated in various activities including painting a school wall and black board, as well as educational drawing at\u00a0Bhagsu Nag Government Primary School.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Childrens.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12994 size-medium alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Childrens-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Childrens\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Activities-with-childrens-at-school.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12991 size-medium alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Activities-with-childrens-at-school-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Activities with children's at school\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/After-classroom-painting-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12992 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/After-classroom-painting-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"After classroom painting (1)\" width=\"339\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Trekking.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12998 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Trekking-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Trekking\" width=\"256\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The highly motivated volunteers conducted sessions on\u00a0\u2018Health &amp; Hygiene Awareness\u2019 and \u2018Waste Management\u2019 for the school children and approximately\u00a040 children benefited\u00a0from this activity. The volunteers also cleaned up at Bhagsu waterfalls\/river located at\u00a0Bhagsu,\u00a0along with the staff from a local NGO called\u00a0Waste Warriors, with the aim to promote awareness among the local community in keeping their surroundings clean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/low-Group-pic-indian-family-Holi-festival.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12995 size-medium alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/low-Group-pic-indian-family-Holi-festival-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"low Group pic indian family Holi festival\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/low-Group-picture-with-childrens-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12996 size-medium alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/low-Group-picture-with-childrens-2-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"low Group picture with childrens (2)\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0As part of their inter-cultural learning, the volunteers had the opportunity to celebrate the festival of Holi (festival of colours) with the local community\/school children and interacted with the Tibetan monks. The volunteers had a once-in-a-lifetime, wonderful experience when they visited the main monastery at Mcleod Ganj for His Holiness, the 14<sup>th<\/sup> Dalai Lama\u2018s public teaching about Bodhisattva. They were fortunate to meet the Dalai Lama<strong> \u2018<\/strong>in person\u2019 and listen to his teachings &#8211; it was truly an amazing encounter! They attended the Dalai Lama\u2019s 3 day session from 11<sup>th<\/sup> &#8211; 13<sup>th<\/sup> March 2017 with enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed a Tibetan cooking session. They also had the time to visit different places like the domestic and international Tibetan community with monks from Nepal, Sikkim, Bodhgaya, Mundgod, Bhutan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada and the USA. Although the volunteers were busy with all these activities, they had just enough spare time at the end of their stay to take part in a sight-seeing excursion to a Hindu temple, Bhagsu waterfalls, the Dalai Lama Temple, the Tibet Museum, the Tibetan Children\u2019s Village, the Central Tibetan Library and the Tibetan Parliament House.
