Sea Turtle Conservation
For the last 15 years the Sea Turtle population has been under threat from fishing and egg predation by locals. Three species of the protected Sea turtle are nesting on India’s West coast and all of them are endangered species. The project is working along a 60 kilometre stretch of beach in the south and north of Kundapur, Karnataka, where you will conduct surveys and awareness campaigns in schools, harbours and fishing communities, build hatcheries and information centres, and help with promotional material.

Please note: This project is seasonal and starts in September and runs until January, only for four months. The work is varied and your creativity is welcomed for this project.
It requires high motivation and some knowledge in this particular field is useful.
Please remember in the first month and the last month it is more of report making and recording data and surveying, etc.

Environmental Education
This project works in association with local NGOs and our organization to educate lower economic and social groups, the local community, youth and children in educating them in environmental concerns, good practices and present situations. This is usually in rural areas where there has not been much development.

You can take part in a project to develop and support in creative education on nature conservation and to educate the local community in the economic and social benefits of environmental protection and nature conservation.

You will be visiting schools, colleges, and youth groups and organizing environmental educational workshops. Apart from this, there is a chance to also work with the local community where our volunteers together with field ssistants try and
create model streets. Solid waste management and separation of biodegradable material is introduced to the local community and to make compost pits, etc. There is a lot of scope for the interested volunteers who have prior experience to bring in their ideas.

*Please note minimum application for Environmental Education is for four months.

Eco Tourism
Ecotourism involves two major themes: Nature and Culture. Ecotourism is a responsible way to travel which contributes to the protection of the environment in natural areas, and the preservation of culture in local communities. It also provides conscious travellers with unique experiences which cannot be found from mass tourism.

This is a starter project of FSL, which means there is still a lot to be done!
The volunteers will start by getting to know the village, neighbourhood and villagers in order to work together with them and see the different aspects of their lives. Giving and organizing education about the possibilities but also the problems is an important aspect of the work.

Developing a way of working, using the local possibilities and introducing and setting up a structure, such as:
· Creating a database of information of the surrounding area
· Training and working with the local community in order to involve them in
..active participation.
· Raising environmental and cultural preservation awareness
· Setting up and running the Eco Tourism project
· Making a web site and promoting eco tourism as a form of livelihood for the.local ..community.

The main fields of work are: art, traditional life, sights, environmental awareness, food, agriculture, industry, medicine, landscape, outdoor activities, religion, and spiritual experience. Each of those fields is divided into more sub fields. You will be working in a small team or individually to complete the database. The work will include site-based research therefore experience in this and the ability to write reports is needed.

*Please note minimum application is for four months.

Environmental Conservation projects/ Stream Net/
Communist grass Eradication/ Rain Water Harvesting/ etc
Much of India’s wildlife and habitat are at risk from destruction due to the rapid development of the population and the growth of urban areas.
Furthermore, the modernization of the economy and the use of “productive” and “high yielding” techniques in agriculture and industry has led to the destruction of natural ecosystems.

This project works in association with local NGOs to support lower economic and social groups and communities in the development of sustainable water resource use and management, Sustainable working methods in agriculture, and Tree-planting campaigns. This is usually in rural areas where there has not been much development. You can take part in a project to develop and support nature conservation projects in local communities to protect local endangered ecosystems, to raise awareness of environmental and conservation issues to schools and the local community, and to educate the local community in the economic and social benefits of environmental protection and nature conservation The above project fields will all be in rural areas where there has not been much development or economic activity.

The projects described above are seasonal and vary accordingly.

*Please note minimum application is for four months.
