Your first week in India
The month of November saw another set of 18 mid- to long-term volunteers (MLTV) join us in India. Their first few days were carefully planned out for a week-long orientation session that discussed various aspects of what their stay in India would entail. The volunteers joined us from 9 different nationalities and the orientations took place at both our Bengaluru (Head Office) and Kundapura offices.
Here is what you can expect from an orientation week:
– Expectations and fears: this exercise is aimed at addressing the expectations and fears that volunteers may have, with a view to helping them manage their projects successfully
– Country presentation: an important part of intercultural exchange, these presentations involve volunteers preparing and presenting the various cultures of their countries
– Project visit: this gives volunteers a hands-on experience of what they may expect in their project and gives them a glimpse of their roles and responsibilities
– Host family visit: provides a brief introduction to life in a host family and highlights some Do’s and Don’ts
The first week of each month is usually reserved for these orientation sessions, which always begin with an Indian welcome.
