My name is Corinna and I am in India since April 2016.After two months in a summer project I stayed at an orphanage for five months. I enjoyed both a lot and in November I finally came to SDM Mangala Jyothi Integrated School in Vamanjoor, where I am working with another volunteer now.

There are children from UKG to 10. Standard studying in this school and round about one third of them are children with special needs. In the school there are different offers as Speech therapy, physiotherapy, book manufacturing and arts, class beside the normal school life.

We are the first volunteers in this project and both the teachers and the students are really kind and supportive. Part of our work is teaching English to primary school classes, but also we have projects, e.g. teaching crafts to the book manufacture class. Another main task is tutoring children who can’t attend sports class because of their handicap. Therefore we are preparing individual lessons and learning methods. This is a work where you can see a success in the student’s knowledge very fast and that is a great feeling!

I am really happy to be here and have the opportunity to see the great work that is done here in teaching all the students to be nice and respectful to all of their classmates and teachers. I am looking forward to my last two months at the school and India!
