SH-19 Mid Term Evaluation -October 2019

SH-19 Mid Term Evaluation -October 2019

LTV team, Kundapura organised a Mid Term Evaluation for FSL India’s Long Term Volunteers. The programme was held for 2 days, from 17th and 18th October 2019. In total, 4 volunteers from AFS took part in this evaluation. The MTE was organised at FSL India’s Centre for Experiential Living. The objective of the MTE was to assess the progress of our volunteers, how they are doing in their project and host family, to offer solutions to overcome any hurdles, as well as guidance for the rest of their volunteering journey.

On the first day, the LTV Kundapur team organised different sessions on the expectations and fears, t challenges, motivation and finally, an open discussion. We also conducted some games for group bonding and energisers and in the evening, the volunteers had one-to-one meetings with their coordinators.

The second day began with energisers after which Nagarathna and Manjunath Kannal, our coordinators, explained about the outlook on the future and the 4 month plan in India. Next, there was an open forum, where the volunteers discussed about their plans after this service, in Germany, and what they had learnt through the intercultural exposure that they had in India so far. They shared their feelings and motivated each other.

After that, everyone talked about their personal life in India and related some funny incidents. As coordinators, we were all surprised that all our volunteers were speaking good Kannada (local language) and that too, with a pure accent. All these discussions made our volunteers to additionally strengthen their motivation for their remaining days in India.

The next session was very interesting, where each volunteer had talk about a situation where their Indian Host Family reacted differently from what a German family would have and what their understanding was on the differences in reactions. They also learnt about the local culture from their host family and shared how they have been able to influence their host family. In the session on challenges, we got to know about the many challenges faced by our volunteers and gave them some solutions. Finally, the volunteers gave their feedback and mentioned that overall, they liked the CEL atmosphere and food.

All the LTV staff, felt that this evaluation went well, going by the positive feedback that we received:

  1. Good reflection
  2. Relaxing and fun time
  3. Good food
  4. Really good support on problems.
