My Volunteering Experience in India- Joline Kemmer – Chethana Special children school – 9 months

The impacts….

In the beginning it was difficult in regard to language differences and to learn about the daily routine. With the time the relationship to staff got better and better. It took time to build up a nice atmosphere. The teachers got more open minded and we got a really nice relationship

Furthermore I practiced every day speech exercises with children. After some time I could see improvements. The children started to repeat some words and to give sounds. That was really nice to see. I also walked with children who could not walk without help. After some time they got motivated and they showed improvements in walking. The parents started to repeat this walking exercises at home.

I learned more and more about every child and their behaviours so that I could create individual materials and activities for the children.

Host family….

I got so many good experiences in my host family and I am so happy that I could stay in this family. They treated me like a family member that was really nice.

Best 3 experience….

  1. The work and the fun with children and staff
  2. Trips with host family and staying in host family
  3. Exploring India

Overall experience.

I am so happy that I could get all these experiences here in India, to learn about the culture and to work in Chethana special school. It was a great time. I also say thank you to my host family, because we had a really good relationship and I got many good experiences.
