My Volunteering Experience in India- Isabel Grabow – Chaithanya Special children school-3 months
Skills gained….
Even when children are handicapped they can be treated like any other people and w should love them the way they are.
Inspiration…
Maybe I will help disabled children in my free time in the future. But I can’t say it directly right now.
FSL support…
If I had any questions I could call FSL and they helped me, which was really good.
Challenges overcome…
The language is a big challenge because sometimes people can’t speak English very good and can’t understand what I mean. Also in the school it was very sad not to understand what the children wanted to explain me.
I learned only a few words Kannada. Next time I should learn more. In school I tried to explain things to the children a lot with my body language.
Host family….
My Host Family was the best and I loved to live there a lot.
My Host family explained me everything I wanted to know, including food, Indian culture and so on.
I cooked with them one day some German food and answered them every question they wanted to know about me, my live and my family.
Living in a Host Family is by considering my experiences the best way because you are really living in the culture and in a family that is part of the culture.
The 3 best experiences…
- Seeing how happy the children can be
- Living in my wonderful Host family
- Get to know the Indian culture.
