“My Experience in India “ – Lorenza, Switzerland

My experience in India was really great and intense, even if it was for Just one month and a half. During my project I taught in a governmental school in Mysore. I couldn’t imagined, before coming to India, to experience so many good feelings in such a short period of time. The kids were really cute. Every morning they were so happy to see me and the other volunteer with whom I was working. They ran towards to us and keep asking if we could teach in their class during that day. For me this was really fulfilling and for these kids, spends some time with us was really valuable and they had a lot of fun!

I taught English, which was mainly reading individually with the kids (very important due to the big differences of knowledge among the students), teaching them important vocabulary for their daily life or just have some English conversation with them. Moreover, I enjoyed playing some games with them, permitting to apply the new words they learned in the previous days. I really appreciate the genuine of the children. They were always thrilled when we proposed a new game; an enthusiasm that I haven’t experience often during my life. I also had the possibility to participate some of festivals during my stay in India, such as Sankranti or the Republic Day. During Festivals, India explodes of colors, which I loved so much.

The last day of my project the kids were really sad of my departure. “Maybe you’ll come next month”, said one of them. I was really sad that my experience in India finished so fast. I have so many good memories from these sweet kids and teachers (who didn’t finish thanking me for my work), the other volunteers, FSL staff (always available for the volunteers) and my host family. Living for a period of time in an Indian family was a great experience!
