Last April, I arrived in India and started working with FSL. In total, I’m staying for 11 months.
My project is a Government Primary School at Mavinakatte, where I teach the children mainly from 1st to 5th standard. In general, I interact with the children and encourage them to speak English through language games, simple tasks, learning vocabulary, dancing and singing. I also give computer classes and training in correct spelling with the older children. In the beginning, the work was a bit overwhelming and challenging, but now I really enjoy the time with the children.
My host family consists of the parents, 2 younger children and the grandmother. I really enjoy living with them. It gives me the possibility to experience more of the Indian culture and traditions like the food and festivals. It also feels good to come home into a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
I´m really thankful for my year in India, and to have this possibility. There is so much to see and learn in this country. I will definitely be sad to leave.
