FSL-India participated in India’s very first GivingTuesday, which kicked off Daan Utsav 2017, where people all across our country entered into the spirit of giving and shared happiness with the local communities by contributing either in cash, kind or by service.

Indian Oil Corporation very generously provided free stall space to NGOs at Bangalore to sell their products and create awareness for the organization. FSL-India’s stall towards the support of the migrant children of Kundapur sold paper products made by the program participants of the organisation’s Centre of Experiential Living (CEL) at Shettrakatte.

The stall was manned from 3^rd – 5^th October, by students from Christ University and also some of FSL-India’s program participants. Here’s what they have to say about their experience:

As a part of our curriculum training, we the students of Institute of Management, Christ University, Bengaluru started our Social Concern Project with the team of FSL-India.

During Daan Utsav 2017, we were given the task of fundraising for the poor children of migrant labourers who are working on construction sites in Kundapur, Udupi district, Karnataka. The objective for the day was to sell the eco-friendly handmade products made by the program participants at CEL, Kundapur.

We choose an Indian Oil petrol pump in Jayanagar, as our destination to reach out to the public of Bengaluru. We targeted the customers who came for filling petrol. Jayanagar being a very busy area in Bengaluru, we got lots of prospects. We were able sell almost all the stuff which we had taken with us to sell, i.e. pen stands, visiting card holders, clipboards and photo frames.

It was, overall, a very nice experience for our entire team to do real-time field selling and also interact with people directly and discuss social issues within Bengaluru City. We also got to know about the viewpoints of the local public related to various common issues, along with some effective solutions for the same. At the end of the day, it was a very good feeling to have contributed something for underprivileged children, who are in need.

The staff and other volunteers from FSL-India were very helpful and cooperative, which made us feel comfortable and were also very effective in selling the products and raising the funds. We look forward to more such opportunities in future, where we can be the part of such events and can contribute to a social cause.
