Exposure Visit to to Neermarga village.

On 12th November Wednesday, the construction  volunteers Ms. Kathrina, Ms. Julie, Mr. Simon, Mr. Peter and 1 PR Media volunteer and 1 Environment volunteer Ms. Laura and HBP staffs Mr. Jeevan & Ms. Manjula had an exposure visit to Neermarga village which is located near Mangalore . There we met Mr. Denis Field staff of Canara Organization for development and Peace (CODP).

We visited Mr. Roman Miranda’s farm, where they made more than 200 trenches, 20 gully plugs, 8 percolation pits and renovated open well. According to Mr. Roman,  now he don’t have any water problem for agriculture and drinking purpose even in summer season. He is growing varieties of vegetables and earning income. He constructed vermin compost tank, prepares Jeevamrutha and using vermin compost and jeevamrutha for their vegetables garden and he is one of the organic farmer. Through organic farming he is earning more income. Later we observed open tank which is filled with water and its an impact of implementation of watershed components. Near  by farmers also using this water for growing vegetables  and earning money.

We visited  2 agriculture farmers where they grown different types of vegetables like spinach, ridge guard, bitter guard, sweet pumpkin etc…. Volunteers interacted with  4 farmers about organic farming, kitchen garden, water shed components etc..

Farmers constructed farm ponds near by their agriculture field to get water for vegetables garden.  There are some innovative methods which farmers adopted and helped them to save electric power, man power and money power. Its was an very good exposure where we learned and gained more knowledge about kitchen garden and different types of watershed components which we can implement in our training center, overall it was an good experience.
