Dharamshala – Clouds End

Dharamshala – Clouds End

Dharamshala, tucked away in the beautiful Kangra valley is a quite a hotspot for tourists. This is not only because of its proximity to the lofty Himalayan mountain range and its profusion of beautiful flora and fauna, but is also the home of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan community-in-exile.

Dharamshala is also a place where FSL-India runs work camps throughout the year, for the betterment of the local community.

From 1st-14th April 2019, we had 3 international volunteers from different nationalities – German, American, and Italian, who came to India to donate their time and services at our Dharamshala work camp.

The volunteers actively took part in various activities in the Dharamkot Government Primary School.

They had a Yoga session first thing every morning at the home base. After breakfast, they went over to the school for the renovation of class rooms and toilets, art and craft with the schoolchildren, cleaning the school grounds and a waterfall cleanup drive with a local NGO.

The volunteers had an action-packed inter-cultural exchange program. In the 2 weeks they were at Dharamshala, every afternoon they visited local cultural places of interest and learned about the Tibetan culture.

Our volunteers spread awareness to the public with the slogan ‘Keep Your City Clean’, by cleaning the Bhagsu waterfalls along with a local NGO called Waste Warriors. They were also involved in other activities like creating awareness about nature.

Our volunteers had the unique opportunity to interact with the Tibetan monks. They also took part in a Tibetan cooking session.

Although they were busy doing all of these activities, they had enough time at the end of their stay to take part in a sightseeing excursion to a Hindu temple, Bhagsu waterfalls, the Dalai Lama Temple, Tse Chok Ling monastery, Narbulingka Institute, Kangra Art Gallery, The Tibet Museum, and the Tibetan Children’s Village Community.

Our volunteers enjoyed themselves during this camp and we, at FSL-India thank them for their contribution to the welfare of the local community.
