December 5th, International Volunteers Day – Together We Can Through Volunteering

On the occasion of International Volunteers Day (IVD 2020), the FSL India team would like to thank volunteers across the world, and celebrate their commitment in creating a better tomorrow for all.

We’d like to share a few pictures of our National and International volunteers who’ve participated in our programs over the years. They deserve our heartfelt gratitude.

“Together We Can Through Volunteering” is the focus of IVD this year. As the world gradually recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers will have a key role to play in accelerating the transition to green, inclusive and just economies.

We couldn’t agree more with this message for 2020 from António Guterres – the UN Secretary General:

“ …. That is why, on International Volunteer Day, I appeal to all governments to promote volunteering, support volunteer efforts and recognize volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

2020 is also the 100th year of the International Voluntary Services (IVS) movement, and Volunteering has become a vehicle for non-formal education, promoting Global Competencies and Social Leadership among youth which is essential in building a more just and peaceful world. FSL India has been actively promoting Volunteering and International Voluntary Services (IVS) since 2000, and we will continue to work towards our goal of developing youth for a Regenerative World.

We’d like to end this post with a poem that sums it up best:

It’s not for the money, it’s not for fame
and it’s not for any personal gain.
It’s for love of fellow man,
It’s just to lend a helping hand.
It’s just to give the tithe of self.
That’s something you can’t buy with wealth.
It’s not the medals worn with pride.
It’s just for that feeling deep inside.
It’s that reward down in your heart.
It’s the feeling that you’ve been a part
Of helping others far and near,
That makes you a VOLUNTEER.
