Cultural meet- October

The culture visit held on 15 October 2015 with Lisa Kohig, Angela and George who came in May and August 2015 and work with us in the different field like special children school, tent school & Media and PR in Kundapur .  As part of the visit we take them to a historical place which is called Sri Mandarthi Durgaparameshwari temple near Udupi. In the morning all three volunteers and the two staff went to Sri Mandarthi Durgaparameshwari temple which is located at a distance of 30 km north of Udupi. The temple dedicated to Goddess Durga Parameshwari is situated in center of the village.This temple is one of the important and sacred temples of Shakti worship. Besides the stone icons of Mahishasuramardhini and Chamundeshwari, it has nine old masks, depicting the different manifestations of the goddess. Nagatheertha, a pond is found in the temple. Navarathri festival at Durga Parameshwari temple is celebrated in a grand scale with Chandihoma on all nine days. A five day mathothsava in Makara Masa and Jatra in the month of Kumba are annual and important events in Mandarthi Durga Parameshwari temple.

After the visit to the temple volunteer also a get a chance to see the Navachandika Yaga in the temple surroundings which the volunteers liked and asked more questions on the same. Later the volunteer had food in the temple and enjoyed the delicious vegetable food in the temple.

Our coordinator took volunteers to different places in and around the volunteers where all the Cultural meet volunteer enjoyed and engaged themselves with so much activities. Also all the Coordinator done individual one to one talk with3Voluteer-India- cultural meet each and every volunteer and during the talk volunteer and Coordinator talks about their project, intercultural experience, about host family etc..

Feedback: The Culture visit was very good. It was very interesting and nice. And seeing temple cows and Fishes, Rivers. We had a good time and it was very interesting to see the temple Thank you!!
