Cultural Event at Kundapur for the FSL-India Volunteers: Holi Celebration!!

On the 22nd of March, 3 FSL-India volunteers Hannan, Linda and Orane had the super occasion to participate in the Cultural Event organized by FSL-India at Kundapura.

The Holi Celebration is called also as the Festival of love and colours. It starts every year by ligting up the bonfire the night before the day of Holi and this process symbolises the triumph of good over bad.

The volunteers met at 10 am with FSL-India’S Chief Coordiator, Dinesh at the Shri Mahakali temple in Kharvikeri area of Kundapura, where everything was ready for the Holi celebration. Everything was organised by the Kharvi, the fishermen Community living nearby the Kundapura river.

Many different powder colours were ready to be thrown to each other, and the atmosphere was very happy and shining. Many people welcomed very warmly the volunteers with applying to their faces many colours and inviting them to do the same to their faces, and saying“Happy Holi!”.

It was a really joyful and enjoying moment, especially looking at the people smiling with a lot of colours everywhere: on their face, hair, nose and even in the eyes and in the mouth!

After having a nice lunch, the volunteers, as well as the family members and friends of Dinesh, dressed up in white and orange colours, respresenting the costume of the group. Everybody was getting ready for the human parade starting from Kharvikeri, in order to reach Kundapura city.

At around 4 o’clock, the people started walking in a huge human line, girls and boys in different groups, throwing colours at each other and dancing behind big music boxes carried by vehicles.

The volunteers enjoyed the parade a lot, the atmosphere, the joyfulness of people, as well as the Kannada dance with the girls.

It was a beautiful, unforgettable day and the volunteers are glad to have had the chance of experiencing the Holi Festival at Kundapura, with the Karvi Community.
