Cultural Day at Maharani’s College, Mysore: FSL-India’s Long Term Volunteers bond with college students

In our Mysore zone, FSL-India’s volunteers were invited to participate in a Cultural Day celebration at Maharani’s College. At the annual cultural event, our volunteers were warmly welcomed by the students. It was good to see the celebrations where the whole college was decorated with colours and all the students were dressed in traditional outfits. As soon as they saw the volunteers, they began to shout out a smiling welcome to them.

5 volunteers participated in this event and FSL-India’s coordinator Manjunath Kannal was able to share with the students why volunteers come to India and what are FSL India’s programs, where they could also be involved and what opportunities are available with us.

After the speech, many students asked for our contact details and they seemed to be very interested in involvement with FSL-India’s programs.

Our volunteers were very happy watching all the cultural activities at the college.

They came prepared with a theatre play about life in Germany. The college students were curious about watching a cultural program of a different country. FSL-India’s volunteers were able to depict the people’s life in Europe through a small skit. They covered the aspects of driving, punctuality, hotels, eating and how people get tensed by watching football matches.

Afterwards, all the students requested a dance performance from our volunteers, so as per their request they danced the ‘Macarena’. All the girls expressed their appreciation very vocally and enjoyed the dance very much.

At the end, they introduced themselves about their work. After that, we had lunch at the college and the girls took lots of selfies with the volunteers. It was amazing to see the college students participate so whole-heartedly in the college’s activities.
