Embracing Diversity and Challenges

Embracing Diversity and Challenges

My Transformative Year of Volunteering in Germany My volunteering journey commenced with a decision to contribute to the Clean Kundapura Project (CKP), a local youth group dedicated to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of beaches, works for Sea Turtle conservation and does tree-plantation and blood-donation drives in Kundapura, my hometown in India. Through CKP, I collaborated with diverse organizations such as FSL India, Reef Watch India, and the Indian Red Cross, engaging in various projects. Post-graduation, I stumbled upon a…

Our Experience at the Varanashi Farm

Our Experience at the Varanashi Farm

We, Klara, Lilja, Sophie, Fynn and Kim, spent two weeks at the Varanashi Farm during our school winter holiday, where we worked as volunteers.  We lived in a small house which is only meant for volunteers which was very cool. There were also three other German volunteers so we were a big group. We spent a lot of time together and had a great time.  Our daily routine was nearly the same every day. We woke up at 7.30 every…

My life here is very exciting!

My life here is very exciting!

I’m Yuka Iwasawa, from Japan. Now I’ve been staying in India for 3 months. My life here is very exciting! In India people are friendly, energetic, social, diverse in culture and food, and languages. In school, I’m teaching studies (alphabet, counting) and assisting activities (Yoga, brushing) to children with special needs. Sometimes teaching can be difficult, but I feel great when they reach their achievements. I’m feeling I’m able to share good moments with them so I’m enjoying school life….

Best Decision Ever! – By Anne Wichmann

Best Decision Ever! – By Anne Wichmann

In retrospect my decision to go to India and become a volunteer was quite spontaneous. And now Ican say: “that was the best decision I could have ever made!“ Throughout my time here in India I experienced so many things. It was full of fun, people, trips, music, colours, festivals and more. There also used to be tough times in which I struggled. But I never felt left alone. There were other volunteers helping me, who I could talk to. And…

Volunteer Voice: “I am excited to continue my new start in India and look forward to many new experiences with my new family”

The January started off quite well. I was visiting Goa with a couple of other LTV volunteers over New Years, therefore spent my first days of the year in good company and surrounded by happy people. When I returned home, there was lots of work in the schooling project‚ Arivu School’ to do since I was going to perform for‚ Arivu Habba‘, the biggest celebration so far in my project. I was practicing traditional Indian music with a couple of…

Volunteer Voice: “India has shaped me in a way that only this beautiful country can do”

Going to India with FSL brought me so much of joy, adventure and growth! It gave me the chance to experience a hell lot of things, in a safe environment and with the right preparation. Whether it was going on my first chaotic bus rides, moving in with my host family, struggling with the language or getting on my first weekend trips. There were always people that supported me, that had prepared me or that were waiting for me to discuss…

A MEMORABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

A MEMORABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

I had the opportunity to work as an FSL India youth worker in Ostrava, Czech Republic during my job shadowing experience. Rather I call it a life altering chance that provided me an understanding and exposure of different cultures. A first hand learning experience in all its aspects that allowed me to immerse myself in not just Czech society but also bring with me a bit of Portugal and Philippines traditions back to home in India. On the first day,…

India so far..

India so far..

My overall experience of India is very positive! After the first weeks of constant confrontation with new things I got to see all the beautiful things about Indian culture, people and the land. Because literally everything is different to Germany it was obviously a lot to handle in the first place, though I had a very warm welcome and felt home soon! Indian people have been so welcoming and open towards me and for that I am very thankful. I got…

I like to see something different a lot – Amelie Hagemann, Germany

By now, I am 5 months in India. The orientation week in the beginning, at the FSL Centre, was very good to get to know some Indian habits, but in the light version. I also met some other volunteers who would work in the same area as me, so I did not feel alone at all. In my project – Regular Teaching at Moodugiliyaru School, is a second volunteer, Luise. She already was there 1 month earlier, so I immediately…
