An exciting day at Christ University, Bangalore – Merle Feindt, Germany

On Wednesday, 11th September 2019, I got a call asking if I’d like to go to Christ University to take part in an exhibition.

The first thing that came up to my mind was, “That must be fun”, but I was also worried about getting there. 2 1/2 hours, 35 kms, for the first time on my own. Back in Germany, it would take us about 30 to 40 minutes. No big deal.

As expected many people were willing to tell me which bus or train I need to take. It is amazing and heart-warming how open the people were, who crossed my way. I arrived safely and was welcomed with open arms.

At Christ University, I met the FSL staff as well as many students, who were interested in doing voluntary work. I was suprised at how many students didn’t even know about their possibilities, and also that it is much more complicated for them to do voluntary work abroad due to the compulsory attendance.

Even though  there are so many interested students that may be willing to do voluntary work, taking the first step seems to be the hardest part. That’s why we were telling them from first-hand experience how they can benefit from different programs that FSL offers. That way, we were able to arouse the students’ interest even more.

For me, personally, it was one of the best days so far here in India, I had a lot of great conversations, as well as great food. Pistachio flavoured ice cream now might be one of my favorite things. It was an amazing and successful day with the FSL staff.
