I enjoy teaching the Tent School children – Sharavathy, Baikady Tent School Teacher

I have been working at the Baikady Tent School for the last 10 months, along with with Felix, FSL-India’s Long Term volunteer, from Germany. The older children of the tent community have to look after their younger siblings, so they are unable to go to regular school. So, FSL-India started their Tent School initiative to provide basic education in English and Maths, and healthcare to the children. First, we go to their houses and convince the parents to send the…

Sea Turtle rescue mission at Beejadi beach, Kundapura – Alexander Böhm, Germany, Linda Pederzolli, Italy & Hanan Aboushakra, Sweden

On 5th July, FSL-India’s Kundapura staff received a call from Beejadi Beach: another injured turtle was found by the local fishermen on the beach. The turtle probably got entangled in the fishermen’s net and came to the beach because of the deep wounds on its neck and flippers. A huge group of people cooperated to rescue the marine creature: local people and FSL-India staff and volunteers, along with members of the ‘Clean Kundapura Project’, an active initiative for cleaning up…

FSL-India’s role in Sea Turtle conservation – S Janardhana Maravanthe, ex-President, Maravanthe Panchayat

FSL-India has been working for the conservation of Olive Riddley and Green sea turtles, which are considered to be an endangered species. In the past, whenever the local fishermen came across the sea turtle eggs, they used to collect them, cook and eat them. They did not know the importance of conservation of the sea turtles. After the intervention of FSL-India, the fisherman community got an awareness of the need for the conservation of the sea turtles. They joined hands…

A Volunteer’s diary – Mysore through Spanish eyes: Work Camp with Teens

A Volunteer’s diary – Mysore through Spanish eyes: Work Camp with Teens

Day 1/ July the 5th : We began this diary from the second (and last) plane to India. We’ve done scale in Dubai, because there is no straight flight from Madrid to Bangalore. This journey to India is strange for ourselves, we feel an emotional mixing: a bit of uncertainty, passion and joy. The flight from Madrid to Dubai took 7 hours approximately and the next one to the 5th largest Indian city took 3 1/2 more hours. It seems…

My parents came to Kundapur from Katapur to look for work some years ago. Cherishing Every Moment In Berlin – Sneha Susan, Outbound participant, Germany

Every day in Berlin is new and hardly mundane. The things I get to experience and see are so culturally rich, and I am forever grateful to FSL-India for the growth and exposure I have received. The last month, like every other month, has been quite an exciting journey for me. My work with children has been much better, especially with the good weather and all the different activities we get to do with them. My colleagues are quite nice…
