Greetings from FSL-India’s CEL!
It is a great pleasure to tell you that from 11th-13th of October, FSL-India conducted a 3-day winter camp at our Centre for Experiential Living (CEL), located at Shetrakatte, Kundapur.
During these 3 days, 55 schoolchildren from the neighbouring villages were engaged, from morning to evening, in different games and activities conducted by international volunteers from FSL-India, with the help of MSW (Masters in Social Work) students from Milagres College, Kallianpur and Government First Grade College, Tenkanidiyoor (Udupi Dist.)
The topics covered in this winter camp were topics such as environmental education, sea turtle conservation, waste management, community social responsibility and handicrafts out of waste materials.
The objectives of the camp, which was highly successful, were to raise awareness among the school kids on their responsibility towards environmental protection, the harmful effect of plastic on the environment, the importance of helping others and how easy and what fun it is to reuse materials at home.
The importance of using cotton bags instead of plastic covers, or having a composting tank at home to make use of the organic waste was also highlighted during this period.
Moreover, energisers, ice-breakers, different fun activities, and championships were conducted throughout these days. The children learned and had loads of fun.
We have to thank our volunteers and college students for their support and hard work. We cannot forget to say a huge thank you to the group ‘Recogida de fondos for India’, whose help has been crucial in making this camp possible, sponsoring everything required, from food to the prizes for the kids. Thank you all once again!
