On Saturday, 14th October, all the staff members of FSL-India’s CEL, Kundapur attended the ‘Krushi Mela’ (festival of agriculture in Kannada, the local language) in Brahmavara.
Why did the FSL-India team visit the Krushi mela?
KVK (Krushi Vigyana Kendra- Bramhavara) is one of the agriculture research centres authorised by the Government of India, which is working for the farmers’ development by giving training on forestry, horticulture, fishery, poultry, honeybee, floriculture, etc.
FSL-India has a good rapport with KVK, because we have been regularly inviting KVK staff to CEL, to give trainings on farming to the local community and farmers.
KVK-Brahamavara organized the event of Krushi mela related to farming, to learn about the new methods and farming systems which can be useful for the farmers and community, to supplement their knowledge and generate income.
In the festival, we saw different types of stalls related to farming such as nursery, new equipment for irrigation and cultivation, how to use technical methods in paddy cultivation, fishery, poultry and sheep.
Apart from farming-related activities, we saw many different shops, i.e. eco-friendly clay, ayurveda medicine, vegetable seeds, flower seeds, different types of horticulture such as coconut, arecanut, jackfruit, mango, banana, etc.
Overall, from their visit to the KVK Krushi mela held at Bramhavara centre, the FSL-India staff learned about farming activities, which are very helpful for CEL and as well as in future, for promotion to the local community.
