The 13th Happy Move Camp kick started on 20th July 2014 with the collaboration of FSL India, Hyundai Motors Company – South Korea, Better World Organisation-South Korea and Hyundai Motors – India. The camp ended on 31st July 2014.
The 12 days workcamp was set up in six villages of Kancheepuram district such as EDRN A – Alapakkam, EDRN B – Karur, EDRN C – Nallur, EDRN D – Kuthirampakkam, EDRN E – Melottivakkam, EDRN F – Neykuppam. There were 125 Korean volunteers, 30 Indian volunteers, 6 HMI interns, 3 BWO staff, 1 HMC representative and 11 FSL staff involved in the camp. The volunteers worked as 6 teams into 6 villages which are mentioned above.
The objective of the camp is Field services and Intercultural Learning. Under Field Services, activities such as (i) renovating toilets and urinals, constructing hand wash sink, roof tiling, class room flooring with tiles, etc in the corporation school premises; (ii) constructing rural flush out toilets and bathrooms for the underprivileged family, constructing low cost house for the underprivileged and needy family, constructing children park, promoting clean kitchen etc in the community.
Under Intercultural Learning, there were several interaction and cultural exchange happened between Korean and Indian volunteers through several events such as Indo Korean Forum; Indo Korean Workshop; attending Kool varthal festival by wearing traditional clothes in Alapakkam village; visit to cultural places such as Astalakshmi temple, St. Thomas mount etc.
The Korean and Indian volunteers left Chennai with greater experience of Intercultural learning and with the satisfaction of serving the society as well.
