On Sunday 7th June 2009, some locals found a dead Olive Ridley turtle and called the Forest department. Mr Kiran Babu, Forester- from Kundapur range forest office rushed to the spot immediately and found the turtle has already dead. He brought that dead turtle to Daasi, FSL India’s main contact person, who informed to FSL about the matter.Daya, FSL sea turtle conservation project coordinator visited the spot next day early morning and buried the turtle at the sea shore next to Daasi house.

It was an adult female Olive Ridley turtle measuring about 1 meter long, 0.75 meter wide and weighing about 45 Kilograms. Cause of death is probably due to drowning(Fishing net). Because no physical injuries found on Turtle’s body.

Nesting season in west coast is between October and January. It is not normal that sea turtle is seen in the month of April and June.
